Overview

Renowned for its striking appearance, 'Marshmallow' stands out as a captivating rhizomatous perennial for reliably moist areas, particularly in mild regions where it remains evergreen, forming a cluster of glossy, arrow-shaped leaves reaching up to 45cm (18in) in length. Transitioning from late spring to midsummer, this cultivar boasts a succession of exotic-looking flowers, each up to 15cm (6in) long, adorned with pale pink spathes encircling a vibrant yellow spadix.

Care guide

Plant in humus-rich, moist to poorly drained soil, basking in full sun for optimal growth. While this variety is typically hardy in areas with mild winters and can remain in the ground year-round, in colder regions, it's advisable to dig up the rhizomes before the first frost and store store them in a cool, dry place until spring. Alternatively, for those in colder spots, treating them as annuals by replanting new rhizomes each year is a viable option to ensure continuous blooms and healthy growth.
