You'll find that green-fingered gardeners will use the terms planter and pot almost interchangeably. The truth is that there are only a few minor differences between planters and pots, and they're used for the same purpose - hosting plants and flowers.
The key differences between planters and pots tend to be the size and whether they're appropriate for indoor or outdoor use.
Plant pots tend to be smaller and often round, and are usually used to hold one plant indoors as well as out.
Planters are often larger constructions that can hold multiple plants - they are most often used outside, and are indeed built for that purpose, able to withstand outdoor conditions.
The first consideration when it comes to choosing a planter should be the material. You want the planter to be hardy enough to withstand inclement weather of all kinds. Wooden planters are excellent for weather resistance and can easily be painted to suit the aesthetic of your garden. If you're happy with a less flexible style, metal and stone planters are also designed to be extremely resistant to outdoor exposure.
Our ceramic plant pots are made of clay that's been shaped and fired in a kiln at extremely high temperatures. The firing process removes any moisture from the clay, hardening it and making it more resistant to breaking. Once that's complete, the planters are finished with a smooth glaze, typically in a lighter colour, to give them a unique decorative appearance.
Our ceramic plant pots vary in size and weight depending on their shape and design. In general, ceramic tends to be heavier than fiberglass or plastic, which may be a consideration for you when selecting the right planter for your space. To determine whether a particular planter is right for you, consider the weight of the plant and soil added to it and how often you plan to move the planter around.
