A gazebo is a great option for adding some social space into your garden. But where do we go from there?

Curtains, doors, and windows

Curtains, doors, and windows can be used to keep the sun out during summer or even shelter from sudden downpours, as well as creating privacy.

You can buy ready-made curtains or even make your own if you’re feeling crafty, but often if you buy a new gazebo they will have them as addons.

Possibly one of the most versatile options on this list. Add some sparkle around the frame with some fairy lights or add some heavier festoon lights to really brighten up the inside of your gazebo. As well as adding atmosphere, they’ll allow you to enjoy your gazebo well into the evening.

Other options include hanging them across the inside of the ceiling. If your gazebo isn’t watertight, get lights suitable for outdoor use.

Solar lights around the garden would be handy to have so you can find your way back to the house in the dark.

Now would also be the perfect time to mention curtains made of string lights, either as trailing wires over the entrance or fabric curtains with lights embedded.

Garden Furniture

If your gazebo is a semi-permanent addition to the garden then add some seating or even just a table. Recliners or hanging egg chairs are great relaxing choices, but benches and garden furniture dining set might be more practical if you’ll be spending a lot of time there. Or want to.

If it’s not quite so permanent, add some outdoor rugs to create a softer space that’s inviting and practical.

Plants

Add some climbing plants to a permanent structure to really help root the gazebo visually into the garden, breaking up any square shapes and softening up the silhouette. Wisteria would be a great option, but really with such a variety of plants available the choices are down to you. You could even add some potted plants to really create the vibe you’re going for.

Ultimately the gazebo is a blank canvas and you can put as much (or as little) thought into the decorations as you want.
