Overview

Colourful foliage for a shady spot. Slowly spreading to form a leafy clump, this decorative fern is ideal for livening up a partially shaded spot with reliably moist (but not waterlogged) soil. Its lacy fronds are initially quite green, but as they mature, they often develop a silvery grey colouring, with a contrasting burgundy-red flush to the stems and midribs. It makes a beautiful addition to a woodland or jungle-themed setting where it can be teamed with other shade-loving perennials including hostas and bergenias.

Care guide

Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould, composted pine needles or garden compost into the planting hole. In cold areas in late autumn protect the crown of the plant with a dry mulch of straw or bracken.

How your order will arrive

Pots and Packaging
Our 9cm pots are given extra packaging to protect the plant. This extra packaging consists of a recyclable plastic blister pack which is then placed in a cardboard box for delivery.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.

Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above.
